Japanese Garden Journal Japanese Screens This 4-page article is about Japanese screens. Known as byobu, the Japanese screen is both artwork and furniture. There are two main types of Japanese screens: multiple-panel Japanese screens that fold, and single-panel Japanese screens that have wooden feet to hold them upright. Japanese screens are traditionally used primarily as furniture in a manner similar to a decorative partition or backdrop. Westerners, however, like to hang Japanese screens on the wall in a manner similar to landscape paintings. |
