Asticou Azalea Garden

This article is a 2-page review of the Asticou Azalea Garden, a public Japanese garden located at the head of Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine.  Flanking a stream that flows through two ponds, it is a small, elegant garden with unmistakable Japanese influences.  In JOJG's 2004 Japanese Garden Survey, Asticou ranked as the one of best Japanese gardens in North America, placing 11th out of more than 300 gardens.

The Asticou Garden is, in some ways, a small-scale rendering of the natural beauty seen in abundance throughout the neighboring Acadia National Park.  Combined, the two destinations make for a wonderful family getaway.  Asticou is certainly one of the top Japanese Garden Resources in the State of Maine and a must-see for Japanese garden lovers visiting the region.
